Problem with Description text in report?

Aug 21, 2013 at 6:43 PM
I am trying to generate a release notes report with the default settings. None of the Description text from the TFS items is being included in the report. I tried replacing the contents of ReleaseNotesTemplate.xslt with what was in ReleaseNotesTemplate - HTML_to_Text_Description.xslt - no changes. I am using Visual Studio 2012 if that helps.

Hi,

TFSChangeLog first stores it’s output in an XML file that’s present in “C:\Users[USERID]\AppData\Local\TFSChangeLog_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS__TFSChangeLog.xml” file. Then it uses XSLT file to transform this output in HTML format.

So first check if you see Description output in the XML file? If you don’t then I would suspect that in your WorkItems, you are using some other field then Description to capture such information. You can open your WorkItem Definition via TFS PowerTools and check which field are you using for Description.

Another thing that might be happening at your end could be some internal error that is not handled effectively by TFSChangeLog application. I would suggest that you run TFSChangeLog via Command Line and see if it reports any error. Please refer to … http://tfschangelog.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Generating%20Release%20Notes%20Report

Also refer to this if you don’t find “TFSChangeLogConfig.xml” file in your installation folder. http://tfschangelog.codeplex.com/workitem/1131

I hope this helps!
